How this was measured: road route from Waldstraße 19/1 in Lenzing to the centre of the town, route planner OSRM based on OpenStreetMap, measured on 9 October 2026 and re-checked on 13 October 2026 (deviation at most 2 km); travel time rounded to 5 minutes.

Anyone working in an industrial or commercial area often has a server in the building that is older than most of the people at reception. It runs as long as nothing happens. Nobody asks about it until a disk fails, an update stops the inventory system, or someone wants to know whether last night's backup is still usable. That is when you find out whether the backup was ever tested.

Timelkam has an industrial and energy past, a railway station on the Westbahn and commercial land only minutes from Vöcklabruck. We do not know the individual businesses personally and do not claim to. But wherever things are produced, planned and delivered, control PCs, drawing software and a server holding order data tend to be tied together. What matters there is not whether some backup exists, but how long the business stands still after a failure.

Who looks after businesses in Timelkam when IT goes wrong?

Florin Feier of WVM-IT from Lenzing, 5 kilometres away: by remote access across Austria, on site by appointment. Single help without a contract costs €95 per hour.

Examples of what enquiries from Timelkam can look like

  • A business with a server from before Windows 10 that no longer receives updates.
  • A backup that has ended with a warning for months that nobody reads.
  • A manufacturer where drawings and orders sit on one shared folder and nobody knows who may access what.
  • An office moving to Microsoft 365 that wants to know what should happen to the old server.
  • A disk in the server reports errors and there is no current copy.
  • A move within the commercial area where server, network and telephones must work again on Monday.
  • A supplier whose customer asks for proof that data is backed up regularly and can be restored.

Getting to Timelkam

From Lenzing to Timelkam it is about 5 kilometres, roughly 10 minutes by road. For appointments we tell you in advance which parts we will bring, so nobody has to come twice. A visit costs €120 per hour plus travel, which hardly matters over this distance. Remote maintenance is billed by effort at €95 per hour, without travel. After your enquiry we get back to you on working days within 24 hours.

The server is rarely what gets noticed

In many businesses the server sits in a storeroom, a technical cupboard or under a desk. It has no screen, no owner and seldom a maintenance plan. The risk lies less in a dramatic failure than in quiet ageing: disks that have run for years, Windows versions without security updates, fans full of dust, a power supply with no spare. Industry and trade make this worse because processes hang on the server: orders, delivery notes, time recording, sometimes the link to a machine. So we start with a list of what the server actually does and only then ask how it should be backed up. Often it turns out that two services could have run elsewhere long ago and one no longer works without the server.

Backup means being able to get it back

A backup only counts once it has been tested. In practice we meet three situations: the backup has stopped because a password expired; it runs but contains the wrong folder; or it is fine but stored in the same room as the server. For businesses in Timelkam that often work with large drawing and order files, duration adds to this, because restoring several hundred gigabytes over an ordinary line takes time. So we define what has to come back first in an emergency to keep the business going, and what can wait. We write that order down on one page that also hangs printed in the office. That includes the question of who in the business may start a restore at all, so that it does not fail on a password only one person knows.

Remote maintenance as the rule, the visit as the exception

Most of what has to be done on a server needs no one on site: reading alerts, installing updates, clearing storage, changing access rights, checking backups. We do this at a fixed rhythm and contact you only when something needs a decision. Being 5 kilometres away matters when something physically cannot be done remotely: replacing a disk, recabling a device, checking a backup on the device itself. You do not have to be locked into a contract for that. If you need help once a year, book one-off help by the hour; if you want peace of mind, add server care and backup care. A fixed order of steps saves arguments in an emergency and shortens the time work stands still. We rehearse that once beforehand as well.

What we come to Timelkam for

  • Setting up or replacing a server, or moving it into a new cabinet
  • Fitting a backup drive or NAS and going through the first restore together
  • Checking the uninterruptible power supply so a voltage dip does not damage the server
  • Checking the network between office, workshop and warehouse and pulling missing cable
  • Taking inventory: which devices, which licences, which accounts

On-site appointments are arranged in advance, with a price. On-site work is charged at €120 per hour, net plus VAT and travel.

Single tasks — fixed price, no contract

What runs without a site visit

The daily check of the backup, storage space and disk health, Windows updates on the server, users and permissions, and the feedback when something goes wrong all happen by remote maintenance. The restore test, where a file or a whole folder is pulled back from the backup, also runs remotely and is logged. You get a short result instead of a tool you have to log into.

Frequently asked questions

How often should a backup be tested?

At least once a quarter, and again after any major change to the server. A real test means restoring a file and opening it. A backup job that reports green says nothing about whether the data can be recovered. Our backup care at €49 a month (net, indicative price) covers exactly that.

What does server care cost in Timelkam?

€89 a month, net plus VAT, as an indicative price. It covers monitoring, updates and feedback when something looks wrong. Looking after the workstations adds €29 per workstation a month. There is no travel charge for this, because the work is done by remote maintenance.

Is a backup to a USB drive in the same room enough?

No. In a fire, a break-in or malware that encrypts everything attached, the server and the drive are lost together. You need at least one copy that is outside the building or disconnected from the network. We work out what that looks like for you in an inventory.

Will you come to Timelkam if the server is down?

Yes, if the cause is on site, for example a faulty disk or power supply. We reply on working days within 24 hours and agree an appointment. We do not offer a round-the-clock emergency service. A visit costs €120 per hour plus travel, which is about 5 kilometres from Lenzing.

We have machine or control PCs. May you touch them?

Only what you release to us. We do not update control computers running manufacturer software on our own initiative, because an update can break the machine connection. We back them up, separate them from the rest of the network where needed and agree every change with you or the machine maker.

Do we need our own server, or is the cloud enough?

That depends on your software. If your inventory or industry software only runs locally, the server stays. For file storage, email and collaboration, Microsoft 365 is often the simpler option, and setting it up costs €290. We work out both before we recommend anything.
