Backups set up to actually work when it matters

WVM-IT sets up backups for businesses in a way that actually holds up: we start with what is being backed up, where and how often; then the 3-2-1 rule (three copies, two media, one off-site) and a real restore test.

What the setup costs, we say after an audit — it depends on data volume, existing systems and requirements. Ongoing monitoring after that starts at €49 per month.

Updated:

Almost every business has a backup. Far fewer businesses know when it last ran, and even fewer have ever tried to bring anything back from it. That gap is exactly what a properly set up backup closes: it tells you in advance what it can do, it flags itself when it fails, and it proves its promises with a restore that was actually measured.

What the setup includes

  • Audit: which data must the business be able to bring back after an incident — files, ERP, email, databases, configurations
  • Destinations: NAS in-house, a second medium off-site, cloud on top — the 3-2-1 rule as a foundation, not a slogan
  • Schedule: daily, outside working hours; several times a day for systems in constant use
  • Separation from the server: a copy sitting next to the server survives no server-room fire
  • Restore test: a real file, a real folder, a real database — brought back and timed
  • Alerting: who hears about it and how, when a backup fails
  • Documentation: what goes where, how long it is kept, who reaches for it

Why there is no fixed price here

Because it would not hold up. Whether a business backs up 200 GB of files or mirrors 8 TB of databases to a second site is a difference of days and a difference in the hardware required. We give you the price in writing after the audit — before any work starts, and then it stands. The audit itself we bill by the hour (€95 remote, €120 on site plus travel). Ongoing monitoring of the resulting backup starts at €49 per month.

How it runs

  1. Audit

What lives where today, what is being backed up today, how long can the business be down in an emergency. Those three answers produce the plan.

  2. Set up and separate

We configure destinations, schedule and alerting, and physically separate at least one copy from the server. From then on the backup runs without intervention.

  3. Test, do not hope

To finish we restore data and record how long it took. Only that number turns a backup into a reliable promise.

3-2-1 rule: what it means

Three copies of the data (the original counts), on two different media, one of them off-site. The rule is old and still rarely implemented, because it is inconvenient: you buy a second medium and you make sure a copy leaves the building. Those who do it survive a broken storage device, a server-room fire and a ransomware attack at the same time. Those with only one copy next to the server survive none of them.

And if it should be ongoing after all?

Then the services pages are the right place. They are about support that continues: keeping an eye on workstations and servers, checking backups, being reachable when something stops. That starts at €29 per workstation and month and is something other than a single task — which is why it has its own pages.

Common questions

We already back up to a NAS. Is that enough?

Not as the only copy. A NAS covers a broken disk, no more. If the server room fails or the NAS is encrypted along with the server, the decisive second copy off-site is missing. What we usually add is a second destination and a regular test.

How long does the setup take?

A simple build (one server, one destination in-house, one off-site) is done in a day. With several sites, industry software with its own backup path or large first backups it becomes two to five. We name the frame in the offer.

What is the difference from ongoing support?

The setup is one-off — it answers „who sets this up properly“. Ongoing monitoring from €49 per month answers „who notices when the backup fails tomorrow“. Both belong together, but one does not force the other: we also set it up if you want to monitor it yourself afterwards.

What about GDPR and data protection?

The backup is part of your records of processing activities: what is backed up where, how long it is kept, who has access. We give you the details that belong there; where data lives in a cloud, we keep it in an EU data centre.
